Mentored Opportunities for Research Experience

Each summer, the Mentored Opportunities for Research Experience (MORE) Program offers McDonough undergraduates the opportunity to have a semi-structured summer research experience supporting a faculty member’s research. MORE fellows provide up to 170 hours of remote work assistance from May to August to support faculty research and, in return, are provided a $3,000 research award.

Selected students are connected with a faculty member to investigate topics related to business, which may also be interdisciplinary. Through one-on-one collaboration with a faculty member on their research projects, students will delve deeply into the evolving nature of scholarly inquiry and acquire hands-on experience in executing original research. This personalized mentorship not only demystifies the research process but also equips students with practical skills and knowledge applicable to real-world scenarios

Upon completion of their research fellowships, MORE fellows will present their findings in a forum open to the entire Georgetown community during the Undergraduate Research Symposium in October.

By participating in MORE, students will be able to

• Develop a foundational understanding of the research process and its various components.
• Cultivate effective collaboration and teamwork skills through working closely with a faculty mentor and fellow students.
• Enhance problem-solving abilities by actively engaging in the resolution of real-world research challenges within the chosen project.
• Strengthen critical thinking skills by analyzing and interpreting data, literature, and relevant research findings.
• Gain hands-on experience in employing research methodologies specific to the chosen field of study under the mentorship of a faculty member.
• Improve oral and written communication skills by presenting research findings in various formats.
• Develop effective time management skills to balance project commitments, academic responsibilities, and other obligations.
• Foster an understanding of ethical considerations in research, including issues related to data integrity, confidentiality, and responsible conduct.
• Gain insights into potential career paths within the field of research and academia, fostering informed decision-making for future academic and professional pursuits.
